SANTA ROSA ART ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Please read the following information about this scholarship.
1)
The Santa Rosa Art Association will award selected applicants scholarship certificates valued from $300 or more each for financial assistance in the 2008-2009 school term (fall or spring term) for college (or art school) tuition for visual art instruction. To be academically qualified, applicants must be current 12th graders in a Santa Rosa County school with qualifying grade point averages for earning regular high school diplomas at the end of this school year (2007-2008). They must also have the grades necessary to be accepted by their chosen colleges or art schools.
Applying students do not have to major or minor in art to receive a general SRAA scholarship
and do not have to attend college full time. One scholarship will be designated for use only at
Pensacola Junior College.
2)
Each student who wishes to apply for an SRAA art scholarship must submit the following, post-marked by March 19, 2008:
a)
An application that is correctly completed. In this application, he/she will acknowledge that the scholarship money is awarded only if he/she attends an accredited college or art school and takes at least one art class during the 2008-2009 school year.
b)
An essay (200-400 words, typed) on his/her desire to pursue art study.
c)
A letter of recommendation from an art teacher at his/her school. This letter may describe the student’s efforts, aspirations, achievements, any needs, and work ethic.
d)
Three or more photos of fine art of various media that the student has created during his/her high school years. Variety is encouraged. These submitted photos must be clear and printed on paper. (Digitally-stored files of art work are not acceptable for submission with the application.) Photos may not be returned.
3)
The SRAA Scholarship Committee will select the winners by April 9, 2008. At least three scholarships will be awarded. All scholarship winners will be notified in April and asked to attend the April monthly meeting of SRAA for a presentation of their certificates of scholarship. Letters of award notification will also be sent to the winners’ school guidance counselors for public announcement at the schools’ annual Awards Day ceremonies or graduations.
4)
Winning graduates must register for a college or art school term with at least one art class in their class schedules. Each scholarship student will then send SRAA a copy of the course registration slip, and SRAA will write and mail a check to the Financial Aid office of the college or art school on behalf of the student. That office will sign the check over to the student or credit the amount toward his/her tuition bill. Scholarship certificates may be redeemed in any term during the 2008-2009 school year. Therefore, a student may wait until the Spring 2009 term to take the art class and use the scholarship. Any scholarship money that is not used from the awarded monies by February 1, 2009, will remain with SRAA, and the unused scholarship certificates will expire.
5)
All scholarship winners will also be awarded one-year paid memberships in the Santa Rosa Art Association, beginning September 2008. Scholarship winners are encouraged to become active members of SRAA if they attend a local college.
